September 15, 2026, 13:30 UTC — Ethereum Foundation Protocol Cluster researchers and developers are scheduled to answer questions on Reddit at 14:00 UTC on September 16. The session arrives after the cluster published its current priorities and a tier list for proposed Hegota upgrade work, giving the discussion a more concrete agenda than a routine community Q&A.
That does not mean the AMA will finalize Ethereum’s next hard fork, set a mainnet date, or establish that every item discussed will ship. The Foundation’s own materials describe Hegota as being in scope-setting, with research, specifications, prototypes, devnets and implementation evidence still separating proposals from a network upgrade.
What is already on the record
In a September 7 priorities post, the Protocol Cluster said it aims to make Ethereum’s layer 1 quantum-resistant across execution, consensus and data by December 2029. It said that target is self-imposed, that it will reassess quantum progress with outside experts in January 2027, and that it is planning against an intentionally aggressive assumption that a cryptographically relevant quantum threat could arrive as early as 2030.
The same post places Hegota before the full post-quantum sequence. It identifies fork-choice enforced inclusion lists, known as FOCIL, and the Frame Transaction proposal as the core engineering work it expects to test together. The Foundation describes Hegota as a fork whose delivery discipline affects the later post-quantum path; it does not describe Hegota itself as the post-quantum upgrade.
The companion tier list evaluates 62 proposed EIPs. It labels EIP-7805, FOCIL, an S-tier consensus-layer headliner, while assigning different priorities or conditions to other proposals. A tier is an internal view of delivery priority, not a final consensus decision and not proof that a feature is ready for mainnet.
Why the September 16 session matters
According to the Foundation’s AMA announcement, the discussion is expected to cover the public testing of Glamsterdam, the narrowing scope of Hegota, and work beyond those upgrades. Listed subjects include post-quantum Ethereum, an L1 zkEVM, formal verification, the future of state, decoupled consensus, privacy, specifications, client development and devnets.
For users, developers and operators, the useful question is not whether an AMA creates a roadmap commitment. It is whether the answers clarify which work has progressed from research into specifications and test environments, which dependencies remain unresolved, and what evidence would change the current priority order.

What the AMA cannot settle by itself
Community answers can explain intent and current research judgment, but they are not a substitute for an adopted specification, client implementation, testnet result or an AllCoreDevs decision. The priorities post explicitly describes a maturity path from research through EIP, prototype, devnet and progressively stronger implementation confidence before mainnet.
That distinction matters most for time-sensitive conclusions. The December 2029 quantum-readiness target is a Foundation objective, not a guarantee. The Hegota tier list is a published Protocol Cluster assessment, not a final protocol vote. And the AMA’s advertised agenda is a list of discussion areas, not a release schedule.
What to watch next
The immediate evidence will be the AMA record and any follow-up specifications, client releases or devnet updates. Readers should watch for changes to Hegota’s defined scope, new implementation milestones for FOCIL or Frame Transactions, and clarification of how the proposed post-quantum milestones affect the existing fork sequence.
