Telos announced Tungsten on October 20, 2026, pairing a proposed WTLOS privacy pool with plans to retire legacy pools. The change separates the successor’s technical design from the disposition of existing deposits.

The existing system provides the baseline

In its March 27, 2026 announcement, Telos said its privacy layer was publicly available and described a zkWallet demonstration with live TLOS and USDC pools. The official blog index corroborates the two announcements’ dates and sequence.

The privacy documentation describes the existing layer as adapted from zkBob, using zkSNARKs and supporting WTLOS and USDC.e. The undated page, accessed October 22, 2026, does not document Tungsten. It establishes the documented predecessor’s architecture, rather than specifications for its replacement.

Tungsten’s design goals change the proof system

The Tungsten announcement targets transparent STARK proofs without a trusted setup, formal verification and lower fees. Implementation, formal assurance, integration and independent security review remain unfinished; final fee and performance figures will follow testing. No launch date is given.

The proof-system change is an architectural distinction. It does not, by itself, establish the practical size of any cost or performance improvement: that comparison depends on results from the successor. The announced objectives therefore describe what Telos intends to build, while the testing and assurance work determine what can eventually be substantiated.

Legacy deposits and asset labels need separate treatment

Telos says deposited TLOS will return to public EVM balances, with a separate deposit required for Tungsten. No return schedule or transfer mechanics are supplied, and the announcement does not describe automatic enrollment in the successor.

The March post’s USDC label and the documentation’s USDC.e label are not reconciled in the supplied sources. Neither their equivalence nor the treatment of USDC.e balances is established. The TLOS return statement consequently cannot be extended to every documented pool asset.

Future evidence must connect claims to an identifiable release

A later assessment would turn on whether published evidence concerns the same implementation and operating conditions as the released pool. That connection matters because a design description, a demonstration and a production system support different conclusions; evidence about one does not automatically establish the others.

As of October 22, 2026 KST, with no exact cutoff time supplied, the research contains no independent contract, code, audit, live-pool or usage verification. Its evidentiary scope is official project reporting and documentation, with the distinctions above drawn from those records.
